WATER IS LIFE
About 6,800 gallons of water is required to grow a
day's food for a family of four. And each person uses about 100
gallons of water a day at home. In simplest terms, water is life!
We all share a watershed and are responsible for the water we send
downstream. Let's work together to take care of our water quality.

IT'S NOT JUST DIRT!
Soil erosion is the greatest single pollutant affecting our rivers, streams, lakes, and ponds in western North Carolina. This sediment can devastate fish and wildlife, clog up storm sewers, and fill up our favorite watering holes.

WHAT IS URBAN RUN
OFF AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Every time it rains, or in the spring when the snow
melts, water dribbles off rooftops, runs through backyards, trickles
across parking lots, and flows down street gutters. In most urban
areas, water goes into a vast network of storm sewers which dump
directly into local rivers, streams, and wetlands, carrying with
it a wide range of chemicals and pollutants that are a leading cause
of water pollution.
